VT Club XCTF

News

Welcome (or welcome back) to VT Club Cross Country/Track & Field! This is the first of many weekly announcements we will post to the website to keep you all updated on what’s happening with club, so make sure to read it in its entirety. Volkan’s weekly emails, GroupMe chats, and this website are our main forms of communication, so make sure you can access them.

Speaking of the GroupMe chats, here’s the link to the announcements chat. You should also talk to your practice group captains during practice to get into your respective group chat.

We are excited to embark on our first-ever official indoor season with you all this semester. We’re going to have 6 meets + 1 optional meet this year available to you all, including NIRCA Track & Field Nationals, as well as our regular set of socials, practices, and other activities throughout the year.

If you’re new, we want you to know that everything we do is completely optional, whether that be practice, meets, or socials. With that being said, let’s get started with what you need to do to officially become a member and go over some of the upcoming events.

🤔 How do I become a member?

There are 3 things you must do to officially become a member of VT Club XCTF. Unless stated otherwise, you must complete all of these even if you’re a returning member. Dues information has changed from last Spring so read this even if you’re a returning member.

Everything is due on 1/31 if you’re competing in the indoor season and on 2/7 otherwise. You will not receive your semester shirt if you haven’t completed everything by the deadlines.

  1. Complete the membership survey

  2. Complete the IMLeagues forms (instructions in GroupMe announcements chat).

  3. Pay your dues (instructions in GroupMe announcements chat).

Indoor + outdoor competition - $120 (2 indoor meets + everything below)

Outdoor competition only - $80 (4 outdoor meets + everything below)

Non-competition - $30 (semester shirt & practice with us)

🏃 Liberty Open Signup (Due 1/31)

Our first meet signup of the year is already here! Liberty Open will be on Feb 7/8, with the majority of the events on Saturday, February 8. This is the only banked track we’ll be racing on for the season so you don’t want to miss it!

The signup can be found here and closes this Friday, January 31. Make sure to pay your $120 racing dues and do your other membership requirements by Friday if you want to race at this meet!!! The instructions for everything is in the announcements GroupMe chat linked above. Contact us with any questions.

👮 Officer Interest Meeting (2/2)

Interested in being an officer next year? Come join us in Wallace 340 at 1:00pm this Sunday for the officer interest meeting. Each officer will have some slides prepared to discuss what they do, and we'll have a Q&A session so you can ask any questions you have.

Whether you know exactly what you want to run for, know you want to be an officer but not sure which one would be the best fit, or just want to learn more about what the officers do, we highly recommend you stop by.

Being an officer is a great way to be more involved in the club, as they are the reason we're able to do as much as we can with over 200 members. We have positions ranging from event captains to apparel officer and race coordinator. You could even be the next president (eventually, VP/President is a 2 year commitment)!

🍽️ D2sday TODAY (1/28)

Our first team dinner of the semester is today! We’ll be heading to D2 after practice. A little birdie tells me that we may break the D2 cup stacking record which right now stands at 51 cups (I’m sure Ben will correct me if I’m wrong). If you don’t have a dining plan, fear not! You can bribe one of our many members who have dining plans to get in (just Venmo them the cost of a swipe).

This is a great way to get to know your teammates better so I hope to see you all there after practice today! And don’t forget to leave room for dessert!!

🏀 Women’s Basketball vs. SMU (2/2)

Join us to watch the second-best sports team at VT (after us, of course) take on SMU on Sunday. The game starts at 2:00pm so if you come to the interest meeting, you can head over to Cassell with the officers right after.

If you’ve never been to a WBB game, I highly, highly recommend you come out on Sunday. Our ladies will need a pick-me-up after the massacre that’s waiting for them on Thursday.

🔥 Fireside Chat

Three dictators walk into a bar... and they sit by the fireplace and chat. This week’s guest for this brand-new segment is Charlotte Taylor. Our resident bat expert has some great bat facts to share with you today. Did you know that bats are the most of any mammal? What does that even mean? The most what? Charlotte doesn’t know either because I made her sprint down Chicken Hill and she couldn’t remember the fact correctly afterwards.

Another banger from Ms. Nature is “bat shit is toxic.” And did you know that “rabies is not a big deal”? Maybe this says more about physical exhaustion and it’s effects on cognitive ability than anything to do with bats. If you’d like to be featured in the next installment of Fireside Chat (or if you have a better name for it), DM me content via your vocal cords during practice.

See you next week!
